Health Information Management, Overview For a healthcare organization to be effective in meeting information management needs, the Health Information Management (HIM) department must operate with a clear vision and purpose and be able to forecast needs across the continuum of care and healthcare enterprise. It is essential for the HIM department to run efficiently and effectively while maintaining the highest levels of quality and quantity set forth by preestablished standards and measurements. In this project, you will take on the role of a newly hired health information management director at a facility that is in the process of merging three healthcare facilities. You will be overseeing all three hospitals. You will be tasked with developing a unifying strategic plan, assessing human resource issues and needs, and developing and implementing a staff training plan. The project is divided into two milestones, which will be submitted at various points throughout the course to scaffold learning and ensure quality final submissions. These milestones will be submitted in Modules Three and Five. The final product will be submitted in Module Seven.

In this section, you will review the case study. You will analyze the current state of the health information management department during the initiation of the merger. You will identify the current position of the department to inform the key initiatives of the improvement plan. You will include the following elements: Using the details provided in the case study, summarize the issues for the health information management department during the merger. From a compliance standpoint, determine current challenges the health information management department is experiencing.

Recommend a diverse group of stakeholders that form an effective team for validating the viability of strategic recommendations in addressing identified compliance issues. Describe new policies and procedures that need to be implemented to address the compliance issues identified in the initiation and preparation phase. Describe specific training needs for addressing cultural diversity issues for new hires.
