Ohm’s Law

Ohm’s Law

Theory

Ohm’s law states that the current through a conductor between two points is directly proportional to the voltage across the two points and inverse proportional with the resistance.

V = I R

V = Voltage

I = Current

R = Resistant

Procedure

The lab activity uses a simulation developed by the University of Colorado at Colorado Boulder APA.

Ohm’s Law

  1. Set the value of R to 75 Ω by adjusting the slide bar.
  2. Set the value of V to 1.5V by adjusting the slide bar.
  3. Record the value of the electric current in the table. Notice that mA=10-3A.
  4. Change the valued of V consecutively to 3V, 4,5V and 6V and record each time the value of the electric current.
  5. Take a screen shot of the circuit with and paste it below:
  6. Repeat step 2 and 3 for V = 4.5 v and V = 6 v and write down the results at third and fourth rows.

  1. Plot the graph of V vs I V (Volt) on the Y axis and I (Amps) on X axis) and Paste it here. Please use graphing paper or EXCEL for the graph. (I [Current] should be in Amps not in mA)
  2. What is the slope of the graph using the EXCEL features or by calculating it as raise/run. How is the slope compare with the value or R?
  3. A circuit has battery of 2.5V and a current of 0.5A. What is resistance of the circuit ?
